Field map --- branches in more detail

Prereqs: Landscape
Next: Digital SFQ overview (optional) · Qubits · or return to logic families

In one minute. Optional terminal guides after the airport map. The express lane can skip this whole folder. Use it when paper titles mix sensing, metrology, detectors, qubits, and classical SFQ. Canonical qubits ≠ SFQ contrast lives on the qubits page --- siblings link it; they do not re-paste the full table.

Learning goals

After this hub you should be able to:

  1. Decide whether you need this folder today (confused by titles) or should stay on the express lane.
  2. Name the curriculum's three shared pictures: airport / telegraph / music hall.
  3. Route yourself to the right terminal guide without treating every cold Josephson paper as "SFQ digital."

Should you enter this folder?

Situation Action
First visit; still on express lane Skip --- go to logic families after landscape
Paper title says SQUID / SNSPD / voltage standard / cryo-CMOS / qubit Open the matching terminal below
"Is SFQ a quantum computer?" confusion Qubits then optional platforms
Want a short home-field recap of classical SFQ Digital SFQ overview

Analogy palette (curriculum-wide)

Picture Means
Airport / terminals Branches of superconducting electronics
Telegraph / clicks Classical SFQ pulses
Music hall Superconducting qubits (fragile quantum states)

Do not invent a new metaphor on every page. Reuse this palette.

Classical vs quantum (one line)

Classical SFQ = telegraph clicks; superconducting qubits = music-hall quantum states; SFQ may only be a pit-crew helper in a quantum fridge. Full contrast: qubits page.

Common misconception

"Everything cold and Josephson is one field." False. Junctions appear in sensors, volt standards, detectors, qubits, and classical SFQ --- with different jobs and scoreboards. That is why this folder exists.

Check yourself

1. Must every newcomer finish this folder before symbols?

No. Express lane skips it; open terminals only when titles confuse you.

2. Where is the canonical qubits ≠ SFQ table?

Superconducting qubits & quantum computing.

3. Name the three shared analogy pictures.

Airport/terminals, telegraph/clicks, music hall.

4. A paper says "SQUID" in the title. Do you assume RSFQ ALU?

No --- open SQUID sensing and ask whether flux is measured or used as a bit.

5. What is next if you are not confused about quantum titles?

Return to the express lane: logic families.

Glossary: SFQ, Josephson junction, SQUID, cryogenic, qubit, quantum computing.

Next steps

Confused about quantum titles → Qubits → Platforms.
Otherwise → Logic families (express lane).
